Described by the New York Times as "spellbinding," Phyllis Chen is a composer and sound artist whose music draws from her tactile exploration of sound. She is a 2019 Cage-Cunningham Fellow, the founder of the UnCaged Toy Piano and a founding member of the International Contemporary Ensemble.

Tone Grove is an electroacoustic work that translates Anni Albers' weaving patterns into custom-built drum sequences. Sounds are made from sampled hand-cranked music boxes, bamboo, rice, bowls and hands. The work was funded by the Robert D. Bielecki Foundation and was written for the artist duo LigoranoReese. This version is produced and performed by Phyllis.
